How did this journey start?
The Serbian Orthodox Church is incredibly blessed to have some of the most amazing chanters and professional choirs in the world. However, for the beginners and inexperienced, it's not always easy to find all the beautiful church services that are held throughout the year, nor is it easy to learn our sacred church melodies as well.
For example, there are many books available for regular church services (e.g. the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom) which are free or available for purchase, however, there are just as many church services which are difficult to learn, understand and find guidance (e.g. Saturday Night Vigil services, special services during Great Lent, etc.). Furthermore, the way church services are conducted can vary from parish to parish and music notes are generally suitable for only one chanter or a large experienced choir. Whilst this is okay for many churches, sometimes it can be challenging for chanters, small to medium-size choirs and particularly priests who have to conduct services and chant hymns alone or with little support. Fortunately, this presents a great opportunity for people who love the Serbian Orthodox Church chant to learn the church services and sing our sacred melodies. This is why the Orthodox Virtual Chanter website was created and founded by Toma Nikolic, ordained Chanter and Reader of Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox at Woolloongabba (Brisbane, Australia).
This website aims to be a platform for people who have a genuine willingness, love and desire to learn the beautiful church services (as practiced locally at our church) and chant the sacred melodies of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Our church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas at Wolloongabba (Brisbane, Australia), falls within the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand.

On 19th December 2022, by the grace of the Holy Spirit and with the blessing of our Archbishop, His Eminence Siluan (Mrakić), on our parish feast day of Saint Nicholas, Toma Nikolić was officially tonsured as a Chanter and Reader in the Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas, Woolloongabba (Brisbane, Queensland).

In March 2023, with the blessing and support of our Archbishop, His Eminence Siluan (Mrakić) and our Parish Priest, Father Miloš Raketić, the Orthodox Virtual Chanter website created by Toma Nikolić as a new platform with the goal of helping people learn our beautiful church services and sacred melodies of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
